Product Description

Celebrate the old and the new with this iconic pair of U.S. silver dollars-- the Morgan dollar and American Silver Eagle. The Morgan dollar was issued from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921. It has since become one of the most extensively collected coins in U.S. history. In 1986, the U.S. introduced the American Silver Eagle— a 1 ounce 0.999 fine silver bullion coin minted exclusively for collectors and investors that is now the most widely traded silver bullion coin in the world. Offered here is a pair that has been independently certified by the Numismatic Guarantee Corporation (NGC) to be in original Mint State condition.

Named after the designer, U.S. Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan, this coin was produced from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921. The obverse of the coin depicts Liberty as a youthful woman wearing a Phrygian cap, originally worn by emancipated slaves of ancient Rome, together with a headdress of cotton and wheat— staples of the U.S. economy. The reverse features an American bald eagle with outstretched wings, symbolic of the power of the U.S. government. The eagle bears in its great talons both an olive branch and 3 arrows, representing a nation of peace but one that is poised for war. The dollar was authorized by the passage of the Bland-Allison Act in 1878, which required the Treasury to purchase an enormous 2 to 4 million dollars’ worth of silver each month to be coined into dollars. Later, in 1918, passage of the Pittman Act ultimately led to the melting of over 270 million Morgan dollars held in treasury reserves. Today, the choice few that remain are cherished specimens of a bygone era that serve to immortalize the memory of a young, prosperous, and powerful
United States of America.

In the brief period since its introduction in 1986, the American Silver Eagle has become the most widely traded silver bullion coin in the world. It stands at the summit of a two-hundred-year history of American silver coinage. Since 1986, over five-hundred million American Silver Eagles have been sold to collectors and investors around the world. As stipulated by law, American Silver Eagles are composed of silver mined exclusively in the United States with a purity of .999, making them the purest U.S. silver bullion coins ever minted. All American Silver Eagles are struck in the one troy ounce denomination with a nominal face value of $1. The American Silver Eagle is considered by many to be the most beautiful coin in production today. The obverse takes its design directly from one of the most iconic coins in U.S. history― Adolph A. Weinman's Walking Liberty half-dollar of 1916-1947. The reverse of the coin features a new design by John Mercanti, the chief engraver at the U.S. Mint. It depicts a proud heraldic eagle placed directly beneath thirteen stars representing the original thirteen colonies. By combining the classic with the modern, the American Silver Eagle coins capture the unique spirit of our country― proud of our history while moving forward with purpose.

Each coin is housed in a hermetically-sealed NGC certification holder with unique serial number and presented in a luxurious, plush-lined wood box with embossed metallic gold lettering, piano-black finish, and certificate of authenticity. The coins are unconditionally guaranteed to be genuine. The Morgan dollar will be dated between 1878 and 1904 and graded Mint State-63 out of 70 on the official coin grading scale. The American Silver Eagle will be dated 2020 and graded an exceptional Mint State-69 condition.
