ARENA // The Game of Chess

Arena is an interpretation of the age-old game of chess. The board is conceived as stands from the ancient Roman Arena, where spectators would gather to entertain themselves by watching the clash between gladiators and animals. And the chessmen take on architectural war garbs, each depending on their position in the army.

In this creation, the brand imagines spectators gathering on the concrete stands of the Arena to watch the clash between two powerful armies. The game begins at dawn with the first ray of light hitting the marked floor in the center where the chessmen on both sides stand in their place and take position for the action to start.

What is particularly fascinating apart from the game is the play of shadows that unveils themselves on the stands and the armors of the chessmen, with the change of light throughout the day. This play of shadow holds one’s attention at different points in time throughout the day and would be fascinating for one to notice this play of light and shadows throughout the game.

The Arena should be kept at home near a window where light coming in changes through the day and the play of shadows can be enjoyed while one is not playing with it. So, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Arena!
