The 1963 $2 dollar Legal Tender has 2 different notes in the series. They start in 1963 and then go to 1963 ā€œAā€. The reason for the different types of notes is that when the ā€œTreasurer of the United Statesā€ or the ā€œSecretary of the Treasuryā€ changes, by law they must print notes bearing their name. That is how the ā€œAā€ series works, or any other dated currency with multiple lettering in the series. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing or BEP will print hundreds of millions of ā€œbacksā€ of notes for a series. Then print a set number of ā€œfrontsā€ of the notes as needed for the series with the correct Treasurer of The United States or Secretary of The Treasury. You can locate their signatures on the bottom left side and bottom right side of the front of the note. The signatures on these notes are Granahan on the left and Dillon on the right. A lot of collectors will collect the entire series in a designated note, which adds to the fun of collecting currency as there are many options.
