1928 STAR $ 10 Federal Reserve # 4 Cleveland low serial # 588

Being offered today is a VERY RARE example of a STAR 1928 $10.00 Federal Reserve “NUMBER 4” Cleveland “REDEEMABLE IN GOLD” note that is in Choice Uncirculated (CU) condition. The STAR signifies a “replacement note”.

This note also features a very low serial number: D 00130588 *. The lower the serial number, the more collectible it is.

When The Bureau of Engraving and Printing or BEP prints a sheet of notes and they are damaged in any way, the notes must be destroyed. By law, they need to print notes bearing the damaged serial numbers. When they print the new notes, they must bear a STAR in front of the serial number. This designates the note as a “replacement note”. The STAR Notes are far more valuable than a regular note.

Another great feature is the low serial number with only 6 digits. Lower serial numbered notes are much harder to find! Especially in the 1928 $10.00 series.

This note is very hard to find in this condition.

The serial number starts with the letter “D”, which signifies the Cleveland Federal Reserve.

The numbered series from 1-12 is only used for the 1928 series of Federal Reserve notes. The # 4 is on the left side of the note which represents Cleveland Federal Reserve.

THE NOTE ALSO HAS THE REDEEMABLE IN GOLD STATEMENT ON THE UPPER LEFT SIDE OF THE NOTE:

The upper left of the note states:

“REDEEMABLE IN GOLD ON DEMAND AT THE US TREASURY OR IN GOLD OR LAWFUL MONEY AT ANY FEDERAL RESERVE BANK”. So, at the time you could cash the note in for $ 100 in gold. Just imagine what that would be worth today if you received $ 100 gold pieces back then.

The color just pops off the note. The margins are centered very well, and the ink is well embossed. The colors are bright and bold. The well-preserved paper adds to its visual eye appeal.
